Roger Del Russo - Founder & Original Cameo |
|
Roger Del Russo sings leads and bass and is regarded as the only original Cameo. He sang bass for The Cameos in 1959 when their signature recording "Rock and Roll Arabian Knights" was produced. In 1966 he joined with The Nic Nacs and later The Daddy'os. The Cameos re-united in 1983 to record "For Diane" and "It's My Life". These two tunes were written by Elliott Chipruit and are still among the many favorites at Cameo performances. Once again, The Cameos re-united in 1997 and Roger performed with them at Carnegie Hall in New York City. A true Basso, Roger lends heartfelt intensity to the harmony and truly captures his audiences.
Mr. Bassman, You will be missed! |

John Basilone - Vocalist |
|
I am proud to say that I was born and raised in a Newark, New Jersey Housing Project named "Steven Crane Village". I started getting involved with music when I was 12 years old, listening to my big brother, Angelo Basilone, the Lead Singer of the great acapella group known as "The Savoys". My friends and I decided to start our own band, at the age of 15, and we called ourselves "The Five Reasons." Believe it or not, one of our very first gigs was a wedding at a club called "Joey's" which was located on Bloomfield Avenue in Newark. Not only were we influenced by "The Savoys" but you may have heard of another well known person, who also was born and raised in "Steven Crane Village" (named Frankie Vallie) and that's why we called ourselves "The Five Reasons". One of my proudest moments as a kid was having our band perform in the playground a song from "The Four Seasons" and when finishing the song, we were asked to turn around and look. When we did we saw Frankie Vallie standing on his porch, just after having Macaroni that his mother, Mary, made for him and he was giving us the "thumbs up" sign with both hands. In my later years, when I reestablished myself in the music business, I was asked to sing with a group called "Desire" and I sang with them for 2 years. I was asked to help start a group called "Jersey Sound" and I sang with them for 2-1/2 years. My musical inspirations are my brother, Angelo Basilone, Frankie Vallie and my good friends Howard Hulin, Doctor Paul Stefanelli and Sammy Monaco, who was also a member of "The Savoys". Finally, I am so excited to be a member of New Jersey's Favorite Oldies Group: THE CAMEOS! Welcome, Johnny "B"! |

Cathy Carbone - Tenor Saxophone |
|
Cathy (Facchinei) was born and raised in
Summit, N.J.. Growing up in a musical family, Cathy began playing the saxophone at the age of 6. Guided by their father's love of music, Cathy, her
sister and two brothers formed a group appropriately named The Brothers and
Sisters. They performed in the tri-state area, including summers at the
Poconos and Catskill Mountain Resorts; Las Vegas and Disney World; just to name
a few. As teenagers, they recorded two original songs under their own record
label and appeared on The Jerry Blavat Show in Philadelphia and
Someone New in New York City. By the age of 16, Cathy auditioned for the
"all-girl" band in the Broadway Musical Sugar, an adaptation from the
movie Some Like It Hot, produced by David Merrick and Gower Champion, and
was awarded 1st chair. Her inspiration was the saxophone style of
the famous Sam Butera, of Louis Prima's band; Sam Butera and the
Wildest. Cathy has over 20 years experience performing with her family and
is very proud to be a member of another 'family' group: THE CAMEOS. |
